This two day course is designed for generators, certifiers and handlers of radioactive waste and for management and technical personnel who desire a better understanding of waste management and its current issues. The topics to be covered include radioactive waste generation and management, waste types and disposal methods; waste acceptance criteria, waste certification, characterization, and no-rad added programs; field and laboratory waste characterization and assay methods; and governing regulations (with emphasis on operations at Department of Energy Facilities). Since radioactive waste characterization is currently one of the most important aspects of waste management, this subject is covered in depth.
